THE TWO persons charged with the murder of 61-year-old German national Helmut Steiner, who operated the Jamaica Heights Hotel in Portland, appeared yesterday in the Home Circuit Court.
Helmut's 39-year-old Jamaican wife, Chairmaine, and 44-year-old labourer Owen Clarke, of Linstead, St Catherine, and Snow Hill, Portland, respectively, are charged with the murder.
The case was transferred from Portland to Kingston and they are to return to court on November 8.
Steiner was murdered on May 9, 2008.
The body was found with multiple stab wounds on a road below the hotel which he operated in Spring Bank, Portland.
Clarke was remanded, while Steiner had her bail extended.
The deceased, who was a former professor of literature and philosophy in Berlin, had been living in Jamaica for more than 30 years.
