Second-half substitute Shaunwayne Williams of William Knibb High scored minutes after coming on to earn a point for his school in an ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup Zone One match against Green Island High in yesterday's lone inter-zone match in Lucea. The 2-2 draw kept William Knibb atop the zone with four points.
The burly, attacking midfielder came on in the 70th minute and with his second touch sent his shot past the stranded Green Island goalkeeper for his team's equaliser in the 72nd minute. William Knibb had earlier fallen behind after a stunning Peter Tucker strike gave Green Island a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute.
Earlier, it was the William Knibb team that carried more attacking intent and went in front in the 10th minute when Hugh George Watson scored.
Green Island only got going when the talented Leaton Galloway got into high gear, and it was not long before the Western Hanover-based school found the equaliser. It came when Akeem Williams shrugged off the challenge of his marker and the William Knibb goalkeeper to score in the 30th minute for a 1-1 half-time score. Both schools stepped up the tempo on resumption. Green Island took control with Galloway, his captain Shane Sterling and Karel Smith combining well in midfield. It was from one of these moves that Galloway found space to find left back Peter Tucker but the latter's shot just missed the upright.
Green Island found the lead a minute later. Tucker collected a pass midway the William Knibb half and let fly a thunderbolt of a shot that rocketed into the back of the net, giving goalkeeper Oshane Needham absolutely no chance.
But just when they thought it was safe to play out the remaining minutes, super sub Williams produced his usual magical move with the tying goal.
