A group of women in Saudi Arabia recently demonstrated against the ban on women driving. This country is confused as far as I am concerned. Whereas they have made considerable strides in some areas, they are still backward in some respects. For instance, they have even fined women caught driving. I think they are confused because they allow their precious wives to be driven by male chauffeurs, but they won't let them drive alone.
Can you imagine that situation here in Jamaica? First of all, we would block the roads and then take to the airwaves to bitch and gripe about it from morning 'til night. Then, when all else fails, we would find a way around the law because that's what we do best. So in no time at all, Jamaican women would dress like men and get around the wheels and no one would be the wiser. But, perhaps there would be no need to go that far, because the car dealers who would lose money (women buy most of the cars), would pressure the Government to get rid of such a backward ban.
Yes folks, this is still the best place to live on earth. We no tek no chat bout yah.
Warmington and Shaw
Meanwhile, back on the Rock, the race is surely getting hot and as it continues, I am more and more alarmed by the utterances of the leader of the Opposition and his team members. They have really taken off the gloves and are slinging mud as if there will be none left for the pigs. Shaw had started out by refusing to slide in the gutter and, for the most part, he has. But he and Warmington took the full pan of dutty clothes right into Gordon House and let the suds fly, recently. Shame pan de whole a oono!
Gays target straight men
Have you heard about the increased incidents of gay men targeting straight men in New Kingston - 'coming on to them'? This is getting from bad to worse; what is wrong with these men? It's bad enough that they flaunt their lifestyle in negative ways that give decent, law-abiding gay men a bad name. But must they now try to molest those who have no desire for their way of life?
Upon reading the story, a very homophobic friend of mine remarked that if any of them dared to 'put question to him', he would do the following: 'I would go get a gun licence and go right back to where they are to find the one who did it to me and kill him.' Well, I told him I would not get my hands dirty. I would simply get a bunch of my badman friends to go beat the black off their skins.
Some things have got out of hand in the world and we here in Jamaica are jumping on the bandwagon. There will be dire consequences.
