Grocery retailer MegaMart is extending its opening hours at its stores in Kingston and Montego Bay from the current 12 to 24 hours daily to maximise sales during the Christmas holidays.

MegaMart is the first large retail store to introduce 24-hour shopping.

The Kingston store on Upper Waterloo Road and the Montego Bay store at Catherine Hall will stay open until Christmas Eve. The start date was November 22.

The store's two other branches in Portmore and in Mandeville will maintain regular hours.

"We realise that during the Christmas season many persons have to work late hours and are forced to shop last minute to catch up with their Christmas shopping. As a result, we decided to afford them the convenience of shopping at their leisure, saving while they do, and beating the Christmas rush," said Gassan Azan, CEO of MegaMart, in a press release.

To promote the new hours, the store is offering a $1,000 voucher for shoppers who spend more than $5,000, before GCT, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. There are extra vouchers for those who shop between 2:01 a.m and 6 a.m.

"This is not only a landmark for us, this is a first in the Jamaican retail industry," Azan said.
