FOLLOWING THE passing of Nelson Mandela, the South African high commissioner to Jamaica, Mathu Joyini, has said she was grateful to be in such a wonderful and supportive country as the world mourns the passing of a giant.

"From the news of his death broke up until today (yesterday), I have received many messages from Jamaicans sending their condolences. It has not only affected South Africans but it has affected Jamaicans.

"The prime minister called me several times as well as former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson," she said.

"It means a lot and it was very encouraging and helpful. I know that this is helping me and my colleagues," Joyini told The Gleaner.
