Artists team up for 'Potpourri'

Published: Sunday | December 8, 2013 Comments 0

Respected Jamaican artist Stafford Schliefer, who once said painting for him is like "breathing", will this afternoon team up with Cecil Cooper to serve up a 'Potpourri' of art at 3 Belcour Lodge on the outskirts of Papine, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Both, decorated artists who have been painting since the heady '70s - Schliefer - self-taught and Cooper - a Jamaica School of Art alumni, now Edna Manly College of the Visual & Performing Arts (EMCVPA) - are known to colour their canvases with the pressing issues many have come to appreciate - from the socio-political to Jamaican cultural traditions, and more so, in the case of Schliefer - the inescapable erotica.

World acclaimed, Schliefer's work has been hand-picked by Jamaican prime ministers as official gifts to world leaders - the late Pope John Paul and United States President Bill Clinton, among others. Cooper, a former lecturer at his alma mater, EMCVPA, is no less accomplished.

Private viewings of 'Potpourri', which closes today, can be had by appointments. Contact: 849-4189 or 356-5769.
