As I predicted, Tessanne Chin won through to the final five on The Voice competition on NBC last Tuesday night. All indications were that she would not be eliminated as she had the highest number of downloads on iTunes, ranking 15 for her rendition of Redemption Song. However, all the other contestants also sold well, with the worst being James Wolpert whose Fell in Love with a Girl landed at 48.

Further, Tessanne has the highest number of Twitter followers up to November 24, which is seen in Table 2.

At the same time, a poll conducted by mjsbigblog before last week's performance is highlighted in Table 3. It can be seen that in addition to being one of the favourites, Tessanne was polled as the last contestant who those surveyed wanted to send home.

What gives credence to this poll is the fact that Matthew Schuler, who most said should go home, was indeed sent packing on Tuesday.

It is interesting to note that all Twitter saves, without exception, were sent home the following week. Will James Wolpert be the next to go?

That same article said:

"Damn, Cole Vosbury! He performed Rich Girl first, and he still charted second of all the contestants on iTunes. Oy, that song's pacing was relentlessly boring. But I guess you can't underestimate the power of an iconic hit song. Blake knows how to pick 'em, and I really should just bow down to him and keep my mouth shut."

This only emphasises my call for Adam to find an iconic song for Tessanne. Having said that, perhaps it was strategic to ask her to perform Redemption Song as it surprised me and ranked No. 1 of all the songs - maybe it was the Bob Marley factor.

Yet, I feel that he is playing a dangerous game in continuing to select these reggae songs for Tessanne.

Thank God for her great Jamaican diasporic support.
