Race for Trelawny semis getting hotter

The race for spots in the semi-finals of the Trelawny Netball Association/Social Development Commission (SDC) Open League is heating up as teams tried to cement the top two spots in the respective zones on the weekend.

Zone 'A' leaders Albert Town Infinity (15 points) didn't break a sweat as cellar dwellers New Road didn't show. Second-place Clark's Town (nine) used the opportunity to cut the gap to six, as they extinguished fourth-place Bounty Hall Blazers 'B' (six) 35-18. The rampant Cerene Wallace netted 28 goals from 34 attempts and Monique Gallimore assisted with seven.

Wilson Valley Xtreme (four), who occupy fifth, held third-place Jackson Town (seven) to a 13-13 tie. Captain and goal shooter Sanieka Burnett (Xtreme) scored 12 of her team's 13 goals, and Karril Genas had the other. Jackson Town's Simone Smart had eight goals, Claudette Cooke three and Kericia Campbell two.

In Zone 'B', joint leaders Falmouth United (15) and Bounty Hall Blazers 'A' (15) registered contrasting results. Fifth-place SH Strikers (six) didn't show for their match against Falmouth, while Bounty Hall Blazers 'A' hammered sixth-place Nampel All Stars (three) 28-15. Judian Oliver sunk 17 from 29 attempts to become the league's top goal shooter with 76 goals. Keila Henry had nine and Dora Bent two.

Seventh-place Samuel Prospect (three) didn't show for their game against third-place Classic United (nine), and eighth-place Muschett (zero) showed up an hour late for their two o'clock encounter against fourth-place Sherwood Content (nine) and were decked the points.

The competition continues this weekend with seven games. Muschett High School will be the venue for Zone 'B' this Saturday. Sherwood will do battle with Samuel Prospect at 1 p.m., Falmouth United should get the better of Nampel All Stars at 2 p.m., Bounty Hall Blazers 'A' will look to burn SH Strikers at 3 p.m., and Muschett will host Classic United at 4 p.m.

Zone 'A' battle will be at Cedric Titus High School in Clark's Town on Sunday. The one o'clock encounter will see Wilson Valley Xtreme against New Road, Albert Town will look to continue their winning ways against Bounty Hall B' at 2 p.m., and at 4 p.m. Clark's Town will host Wait-A-Bit.
