Ja must rise to the challenges

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34)

Sir, I started with this Bible verse in response to a survey I saw on the front page of this newspaper: "Should the Jamaican Government legalise prostitution?"

We can be a very competitive nation. We can plant food to sell to China and India; we can compete with Thailand and the Philippines to sew garments for Wal-Mart and other department stores; we can invest in solar and hydropower so as to consume less foreign oil; we can plant vegetable matter to substitute for fossils fuel (ethanol).

Let us rise up above our peers and challenge the world like our athletes and past leaders in human rights activities. We can invent smart cars that don't depend on gasolene/diesel fuel.

Wake up, Jamaica! Rise up to the challenges ahead!
