Lagarde an inspiration to all women

As the island hosts the visit of Ms Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). I wish to applaud her for her outstanding and successful leadership of the most powerful international financial institution.

She is the first female to head this illustrious organisation, and she has demonstrated throughout her career the strength and tenacity that define a successful leader and, most of all, embodies an

empowered woman.

Adept and highly accomplished, previously serving as finance minister to one of the most dynamic economies in the world, France, Ms Lagarde has pursued an international career with strength of character and nobility, defying all odds and shattering the glass ceiling to advance gender equality in the multilateral financial arena.

Respected for her keen sense and acuity on global financial markets and economic development, she has successfully manoeuvred the corridors of power to be recognised as an authority in her field.

We thank her for the personal attention she is paying to Jamaica's current financial challenges, and applaud her for being an inspiration for women and all professionals for the distinction with which she has managed the IMF.
