Warriors defeat Hawksbills

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC):

Captain Marlon Samuels' brilliant unbeaten 106 was not enough to prevent his team, the Antigua Hawksbills, from going down by 19 runs to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League yesterday.

Samuels struck 10 fours and eight sixes in his 52-ball innings. He featured in a 161-run stand with Orlando Peters, who struck 67 with four fours and five sixes.

Earlier Martin Guptill led the way for the warriors with a 51-ball 90. He hit seven fours and six sixes.

Scores in the match played at Warner Park were: Guyana Amazon Warriors 212 for five off 20 overs ( Martin Guptill, 90, Denesh Ramdin 51, Chris Barnwell 37, Gavin Tonge 2-46).

Antigua Hawksbills 193 for three off 20 overs ( Marlon Samuels 106 not out, Orlando Peters 67 not out, Navin Stewart 1-25, Veerasammy Permaul 1-34, Krishmar Santokie 1-45).
