Santa Cruz needs specialist for disabled children

Published:Saturday | August 9, 2014 | 12:00 AM

We are a group of concerned citizens in the Santa Cruz area with particular interest in children with exceptional abilities.

We note with much appreciation the recent upgrading and refurbishing of the Santa Cruz Health Centre (SCHC). However, our children of the Rural Services for Children with Disabilities are not catered for, as no worker there - physician or otherwise - is able to look after them.

We also note with much appreciation the recent announcement by Minister Luther Buchanan about "the training of health workers to deal with the disabled", but we need a medical officer urgently at the SCHC who can look after our disabled children.

It is also good to know that the Government has finally passed The Disability Act in Parliament, but until such time as it is enforced, we need a medical officer urgently at the SCHC to look after our disabled children.

We are asking the Ministry of Health kindly to look favourably on our request and to grant it with within the shortest possible time.
