Rehabilitate funeral route
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I watched the official funeral service of Sir Howard on television in the United States. It was very professional. The Holy Trinity Cathedral was magnificent. However, the route taken from the church to National Heroes Park needs some improvement.
In the next 15 years or so, our present and former prime ministers and governor generals will be closer to the grave. Therefore, it is obvious that there will be many more funerals leading from that church to National Heroes Park.
While I am not advocating that we demolish those old buildings - in fact, they should be kept because they add to the uniqueness of Jamaica - they need to be refurbished. The streets need to be free of potholes and debris. Those ugly utility poles need to be placed underground. Standards for private home maintenance should be established and enforced.
