Insurance snub from JIIC
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Recently, I called my insurance brokers to enquire about the renewal premium for my motor vehicle insurance. I was informed by my insurance brokers that my motor vehicle could no longer be comprehensively insured. When I enquired why this was so, I was told that the insurance provider, Jamaica International Insurance Company (JIIC), had instituted a new policy in which cars with a value of $750,000 or less would no longer be comprehensively insured.
To add insult to injury, this was not communicated to policy holders prior to their renewal of their policy. This is most unacceptable on JIIC's part and runs counter to its public image of providing quality insurance, especially for public-sector workers.
Not everyone can afford to drive a million-dollar car. Why deny comprehensive insurance coverage to those Jamaicans who are unable to own million-dollar motor vehicles?
