Don't entrust childcare to the village
THE EDITOR, Sir:
There is a diabolic trend pervading the nation, a disgusting attack against innocent children. It's time for parents to awaken from their sleep and see that times have changed. These are no longer innocent times.
I would agree that it takes a village to raise a child, but the crime trends in Jamaica suggest our parents can't let their guards down to anyone in the village. Be vigilant as parents to know who you can trust with your children. As parents, we have to teach our children how to act in a public space: not to speak to strangers, not to accept gifts or promises from anyone.
We need a collective plan as parents, village and nation to teach our children proper attitudes to protect themselves.
I would never imagine our society would get to the level where our innocents become the target of the most heinous crimes. This is not one of the problems we can take lightly. Our children deserve a nation that will protect them.
