Research leads to David's Hill

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I was doing my family research and came across the Gleaner feature, Tyrone's Watch, titled 'Bridging the gap in David's Hill', published Tuesday, May 30, 2006. I thought that perhaps someone in Jamaica might be able to assist me.

My grandfather, Hilton Clarke, was born in David's Hill, east rural St Andrew, in 1889; and my great-uncle, Refrey Clarke, in 1897 to a woman called Amelia Clarke. I was wondering if the graves in the area have been preserved and if anyone can help me locate church records from the community.

My grandfather left Jamaica for New York in 1907 and I understand returned to bury his mother, but I don't know in what year. He was a stowaway at that time and held at Ellis Island. Somehow, he ended up in Canada, where he passed away in 1942.

Any help would be appreciated.
