Barbican, Los P on top

Defending Sherwin Williams Women's League (SWWL) football champions, Barbican FC, secured their third straight win when they tagged former champions Portmore Strikers FC 3-1 onWednesday at Racing Oval in Gregory Park, St Catherine.

Shanique Smith hit a brace in the 46th and 83rd minutes, while Tashana Vincent added another goal in the 79th minute for the Charles Edwards-coached team. Kay Ann West scored for Portmore Strikers in the 41st minute.

In other Zone A games, Waterhouse blanked Arnett Gardens FC 3-0 courtesy of a double strike by former national representative, Juneille Watkins (76th, 79th). Shanell Spence opened the scoring in the 64th minute. Newcomers Rangers FC of St Mary and Olympic Gardens battled to a 2-2 draw at St Mary's Sports Complex.

Barbican pushed to nine points from three games, the same as Waterhouse. However, Barbican lead by virtue of a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, in Zone B, Los Perfectos crushed newcomers St James Women's Academy 5-1 at Jarrett Park in St James. Roheema Bennett scored twice (21st, 52nd), while Remona Hyde (42nd), Shenica Williams (73rd) and Chevelle Lopez (88th) got the other goals fro Los Perfectos. Kadian Grant scored the lone goal for the losers.

Boys' Town FC and Real Morant Strikers finished in a 2-2 draw at Collie Smith Drive Complex. Nerissa Williams put Real Morant in the lead in the 45th minute and Latoya Dixon added another for a 2-0 lead. However, Boys' Town fought back with goals by Taunashae Hamilton (53rd) and Theara Annake (86th).

UWI Women's FC surprised Harbour View 3-1 at UWI Bowl, Mona. Brenda Lee Walsh netted a brace (second, 42nd) to add to an own goal by Harbour View. The losers' goal was scored by Shavell Martin in the fifth minute.

Los Perfectos and GC Foster College are locked on nine points apiece after three games, but Los Perfectos are ahead owing to a better goal difference.
