Accreditation limbo at CMI
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I have just got through reading Carolyn Cooper's article titled 'University fi stone dog - seet deh!' (Sunday Gleaner, August 24, 2014) and it has renewed my concern and worry as I might just be in that same boat rowing to nowhere!
I am a recent graduate (2013) of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) where I pursued a BSc in logistics and supply-chain management. The problem is, I know the institute has been in discussions with the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) regarding the accreditation of these newer areas of study for a few years now.
However, it is still unclear what the present situation is, and each time you seek a status update with the administrators from the institute, as well as the eloquent Dr Fritz Pinnock, who seeks to bury the issue with his rhetoric, you can never get a straight answer!
So, after Cooper's article with reference to Hydel and Mico, I'm hoping that someone could shed some light on CMI and its accreditation status with the UCJ.
