Read Clarke's growth manual
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Sunday Gleaner columnist Claude Clarke has written a wonderful article ('What will fuel our growth?', August 24, 2014). The writer has said it like it is, no sugar-coating.
He is agreeing with USA Today that Jamaica is at the risk of defaulting if the Government continues with the present IMF-induced economic policies aimed at servicing the country's enormous debt. This policy is not sustainable and it is just a matter of time before the unpleasant inevitable happens.
Clarke is correct: Money needs to be pumped into equity as real investment to produce real and meaningful growth. This, in turn, will provide real jobs and real income to a starved economy to pay down our debt without continual borrowing.
This column is required reading for all Jamaicans in order for them to understand what needs to be done to put this country on a growth path.
