Be the bigger man, Portia
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I saw Portia Simpson Miller warning the opposition leader that she would stop being "Mr Nice Guy" and respond to any more jibes at her from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). She said that Mr Holness' branding of her as "an empty barrel" was "out of order".
I, however, would urge Mrs Simpson Miller to be the bigger man (or would that be woman?) and just ignore the 'tracings' of the JLP.
Mr Holness came on the political scene claiming to be "new and different". While it was true then that he was new, he certainly has proven that he is no different. Like the typical JLP leader, Mr Holness has morphed into a lead 'tracer'.
These young politicians who many of us in Jamaica have been looking to for much-needed change have surely let us down!
Anyway, Mrs Simpson Miller must realise that she has a country to govern. It is true that she has not responded much to the idle shouts coming from the JLP. I would urge her not to change her stance. She must demonstrate that running the country is far more important than responding to the idle talk that the JLP has become well known for.
So, please, Mrs Prime Minister, don't waste any time responding to the JLP. After all, it has no real chance of winning state power any time in the foreseeable future, so you can always ignore what's left of that party. Just be the better politician - ignore Mr Holness and his hopeless party!
