I'm no neo-liberal, Mr Boyne
THE EDITOR, Sir:
In his article 'Putting people first', Sunday, August 24, 2014, Ian Boyne asserted that "our economics department at the UWI, once a bastion of progressive thought, has been totally captured by neo-liberals". I find this assertion from the veteran journalist to be careless and disrespectful.
Mr Boyne would have the public believe that Dr Damien King, head of the department, walks around beating a big neo-liberal drum while the rest of the department marches in tight formation behind him. First, I, for one, am no neo-liberal. Second, I am not even sure Dr King would agree to such a label, but I cannot speak for him. Third, for the benefit of his readers, Mr Boyne may want to carefully define what he means by neo-liberalism. I stand corrected if he has done so in the past.
