Kingston College (KC) captured the Roper Cup and bragging rights over St George's College at yesterday's annual football festival between the neighbouring North Street schools at Emmet Park.

KC secured the Roper Cup when the Manning Cup team edged St George's 1-0 for a 2-0 aggregate win, this after their Under-35s also recorded a similar 1-0 victory over the Georgians.

Jerome Coombs scored the lone goal for KC's Manning Cup team in the 59th minute.

Lennworth 'Teacher' Hyde, coach of KC, was pleased with his team's performance.

Both teams are set to face each other twice in Group A of this year's Manning Cup competition

"I think we played well in patches because this is a Manning Cup setting, and I think we handled it well against a very good St George's team," said Hyde.

He added: "You want to win everything you play, and seeing that this is our penultimate game going into the Manning Cup, I think it is a good win for us.

The Pancho Rankine Cup for the Over-35s was shared by both schools, this after they had played to a 1-1 draw.

The George Thompson Trophy, which also involves the Under-14 and Under-16 teams from both schools, was also shared after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline. KC's Under-14s defeated St George's 2-1.

However, St George's returned to get the better of KC 1-0 in their Under-16 encounter.
