Honour Clarke with legacy project

Published:Monday | September 1, 2014 | 12:00 AM

At a time when Jamaica is experiencing unprecedented drought conditions, and more recently, the passing of our beloved minister of agriculture, Roger Clarke, it would be fitting to create a lasting legacy in his honour - The Roger Clarke Reafforestation/Watershed Programme.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, along with the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, could collaborate with the Jamaican people to plant fruit trees of every variety, on hilly terrains where possible, to recreate Xaymaca.

Vast tracts of land have been stripped of their vegetation over the years. Replanting trees that produce edible fruits would bring an abundant harvest and a plethora of benefits.

Let's have it in honour of Roger!
