The Gleaner leads the way

The Gleaner (Orville Clarke) has won the fourth bi-monthly prize in the CTL tipsters' competition with 44 winners.

The many-time champion tipster quickened away from his rivals over the last three race days to cop the $20,000 prize.

The Jamaica Observer (Michael O'Connor) was second on 40 winners, while IRIE FM (Howard Abrahams) finished another length away in third.

Having spotted seven winners at last weekend's back-to-back meets, Clarke has widened his lead in the overall standings. He has so far spotted 181 winners - 10 clear of Abrahams in second and 15 ahead of Franciso 'Linky' Mills (Cable Sport Network) in third with 166 wins.

Meanwhile, the tough-as-nails wagering section of the competition produced no winner in the July/August period, as no tipster was good enough to finish with a plus quantity.

Collin 'Pebbles' Blair of SportGlobe had the best chance of winning the $20,000 incentive going into Sunday's meet with minus $701.68 and although his nap selections both won (Crucial Appeal, Very Crafty), neither paid enough to put him over the hump. This means there is a $20,000 carryover to the next bi-monthly period.

The 14 media tipsters are vying for total prize money of $260,000 in both sections. Tips appear in The Gleaner on the morning of each raceday.
