LIME's recent advertising misleading

Published:Wednesday | September 10, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I note with much disgust LIME's forthright and misleading push, via recent advertising, to promote its alleged low international calling rates. And then I noticed that, Monday, these very same international calling charges underwent a massive increase - up to 500 per cent in some cases.

The reason I noticed is because my niece is working in Aruba and this is one of the countries that have seen a massive increase. What used to cost me J$15.40 per minute now costs me J$54 per minute - an outrageous jump.

It is a bitter pill to swallow to accept the practice of utility and service companies trying to pull the wool over our eyes and punishing customers with price increases of up to 500 per cent! Indeed, worse still, is the poor and, dare I say, disingenuous manner in which these price hikes are communicated.

We can barely keep our heads above water. Therefore, I believe it is incumbent on LIME and corporate Jamaica to be looking at ways to reduce the pressures on the Jamaican people.

Furthermore, I call on those agencies that are supposed to be protecting consumers to put in place regulations that force these corporate giants to communicate in an open and frank manner with their consumers.
