WESTERN BUREAU: Newell High will have to be at their best if they are to prevent defending ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) from scoring plenty goals when the two meet in a Zone E second-round football match at Santa Cruz this afternoon, in one of 18 scheduled matches.

STETHS, which brushed aside B.B. Coke 9-0 in Saturday's opening round, showed how dangerous they can be in front of goal. They will be seeking another comfortable victory to launch their home matches and remain on course to topping the zone, with archrivals Munro College their main threat.

Newell lost 0-3 on Saturday and could once more be asked too many questions by this STETHS team, which appear not to have lost a step since their breathtaking victory in the final last year.

inferior goal difference

Munro will host Lacovia, and another win appears on the cards, which would give them the chance to keep pace with STETHS in the standings. Both have three points after one match. Lacovia are also on three points, but they have an inferior goal difference. Meanwhile, Maggotty High seek their first points when they host B.B. Coke.

In Zone A, Green Pond High will be seeking another victory over former champions Cornwall College when they meet at Jarrett Park. Last year, the two played out a thrilling contest, and the Green Pond team could surprise once more if Cornwall fail to stamp their authority and class on the match.

Irwin High, who were roughed up in a 4-1 loss to Anchovy on Monday, will want a much-improved showing against St James High. But that is easier said than done, as this St James High team is favoured to claim all three points in what may turn out to be a very competitive zone.

Elsewhere, The Manning's School battle Black River High in Zone D action, which is complete with a Westmoreland derby between Petersfield High and Godfrey Stewart High. The 2005 winners, Godfrey Stewart, currently lead the zone following their 3-0 win over Black River in their first match of the competition.
