MIAMI (AP): A new tropical depression has formed in the Pacific south of Mexico's coast and is expected to strengthen.

The depression's maximum sustained winds early yesterday are near 35 mph (55 kph). The US National Hurricane Center says the depression is expected to get stronger and become a tropical storm later in the day.

The depression is centred about 245 miles (395 kilometres) southwest of Acapulco, Mexico, and is drifting north-northwest near 1 mph (2 kph).
