Jackson Miller is new PAJ president
Newly elected president of the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) Dionne Jackson Miller has received a vote of confidence from her predecessor, Jenni Campbell.
Campbell ended her stint as PAJ president when Jackson Miller was elected during the association's annual general meeting yesterday.
"I am very confident that Mrs Jackson Miller will excel in the position. She is a very capable and brilliant journalist with a lot of experience," said Campbell.
Jackson Miller is host of RJR's Beyond the Headlines and TVJ's All Angles.
One of the greats
Hailing Campbell as one of the great PAJ presidents, she said she intended to focus on some in-house, housekeeping issues for now.
"We have a lot of in-house issues that we need to deal with; we need to strengthen the structure of the organisation, we need to improve our financials, we need to put ourselves in a more viable position ... it might not sound sexy, but the fact is that unless you have a policy you can't move forward and improve anything or do services really," said Jackson Miller.
Jackson Miller noted that her team would continue advocating for press freedom.
She said she would also continue training programmes for journalists as well as work with international organisations.
The other executive members are Helene Coley Nicholson, vice-president; Karen Madden James, second vice-president; Rohan Powell, secretary; and Ceila Morgan, treasurer.
