Civil cases move to new chambers

Some judges will move over to new chambers at the new Justice Square building in downtown Kingston when the Michaelmas Session of the Home Circuit Court opens today.

Civil matters will be held in the building and will cease to operate at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

The sittings at the conference centre have been costing the government millions of dollars in rental.

Judges have been complaining about the long delay in the completion of the new courthouse.

It is reported that so far, only one floor on the four-storey building will be occupied as the other sections are not completed.
