Gatorade has always been a supporter of worthy causes and charity events. The brand will be participating in the Kidney Support Foundation of Jamaica 5K Walk/Run.

The Kidney Support Foundation of Jamaica is seeking to fulfill its mandate to educate Jamaicans on the prevention, management and treatment of End Stage Renal Disease (Kidney disease), and assisting in the provision of dialysis equipment and supplies to hospitals providing treatment. As such, the organisation will be hosting a 5K Walk/Run on September 21 in aid of this.

Gatorade will be the official hydration beverage of the event, providing flavourful refreshments for participants during and after run/walk.

"Kidney disease, affects hundreds of persons in Jamaica. The greatest negative impact being on the person affected, families, caregivers and workplace productivity. Gatorade has thrown its support behind this initiative as we have always been concerned about the welfare of the nation, and this is an ideal platform to provide assistance," said Cornelia Nathan, brand manager, carbonated beverages, Pepsi-Cola Jamaica.

"Continuing on the path to uplift communities and develop the youth, Gatorade will also be the official hydration sponsor, along with Crystal Punch Purified Water, for the Digicel MVP Grassroot Athletic," Nathan explained.

The Athletic Clinic will be conducting and islandwide athletic-clinic training camp to include student-athletes in the age group 12-18 years old, and their coaches. The programme will take place in all three counties and involve student-athletes from the 14 parishes in Jamaica, and kicked off September 16 at the University of Technology, Jamaica. Gatorade, the official hydration sponsor, will provide refreshments throughout the programme.

GROWING CHAMPIONS

"One of the primary purposes of the MVP Grassroot Athletic Clinic is to provide lifelong developmental guidance to Jamaica's future athletic stars and their coaches. Gatorade has made it our priority to be a part of this initiative as we have supported the growth of sports and, overall, the growth of our nation," Nathan said.

"Gatorade is the official sport drink of athletes worldwide. Athletes who participate in intense and otherwise physical activities drink Gatorade to replenish lost water, electrolytes and carbohydrates excreted in sweating. It is not only a thirst quencher, but it can help prevent dehydration and muscle cramps during and after strenuous physical activities," she said.
