Bishop of Kingston calls Jamaicans to join chik-v battle

Bishop of Kingston, the Right Reverend Dr Robert Thompson, is appealing to the Anglican communion and "all persons of goodwill" to assist in ridding Jamaican communities of the breeding places for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The Aedes aegypti spreads the chikungunya virus currently causing concern in sections of the island.

"We should be especially mindful of the very young and the aged who are more susceptible to the effects of the virus and are unable to protect themselves from attacks of the mosquitoes," Thompson said.

He suggested that church organisations and other persons who would like to be of assistance access the relevant information from the Ministry of Health, as well as medical practitioners.
