September 30 deadline for JCDC Performing Arts Competition
With an already exciting build-up to the 2015 National Festival of the Performing Arts, the public is being reminded that entry in the competition will close on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.
Individuals, schools, community groups, youth clubs, social clubs, performing arts clubs and church groups are invited to submit entries in various classes and categories in the areas of speech, drama, music, traditional folk forms and dance.
The entry forms are available online at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) website, www.jcdc.gov.jm, at the JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10, and all JCDC parish offices islandwide.
Committed to creating priceless experiences and opportunities for young people in the art form, the JCDC hosts development workshops and training for participants, a commitment which has been proven to improve performances.
JCDC's director of marketing and public relations, Stephen Davidson, encourages young people to get involved in the performing arts, noting that, "The benefits from the competition have allowed participants to make valuable contributions to the creative and cultural industries, and of course, to their own personal development."
The zone finals will be held in November and December 2014, while the parish finals will run January through February 2015, and the national finals in March 2015.
