Media focus too much on bad news

Published:Monday | September 22, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir: More coverage in the media of positive news stories is needed. Negative news sells, but too much exposure to negative news stories leaves viewers and/or listeners feeling depressed, stressed, and, in some cases, hopeless.

I can't help but wonder how many positive news stories have been unheard, unseen and unknown to the wider population because of the lack of coverage of such stories.

There is too much coverage of politicians and the Government of Jamaica and not enough coverage of, for instance, the work being done by social workers, NGOs, charity organisations, and the Church. Positive news stories will attract more readers, viewers and listeners!
