Rest the best treatment for chik-V

There are no antiviral drugs or medicines, and no vaccination for the treatment of the chikungunya virus. However, since chikungunya is cured by the immune system in almost all cases, the best treatment you can administer are:

Plenty of rest to repair damaged cells and allow the body to produce antibodies to heal itself

Adequate fluid to prevent dehydration

Eating nutrient-rich foods to boost your immune system

Taking aspirin-free painkillers to alleviate pain and discomfort

Getting adequate rest during an illness is very important. Because the body is fighting a disease that is attacking its immune system, it needs the down time to generate the antibodies needed to ward off the attack and bolster your immune system.

Rest is important to help the body to heal itself and fight off diseases. During the recuperative stage, cells are repaired, your energy is built up, your body is strengthened, antibodies are built and your immune system is strengthened.

survival mode

When you are sick, your body goes into survival mode, reducing energy levels, reducing all systemic functions, and routes its energy in boosting its antibodies to combat the microorganisms and repairs damaged cell. Rest helps you to conserve more energy to route for disease combat and cell repair.

Hence, there is no two ways about it, adequate rest is one of the most powerful weapons in fighting chikungunya and other illnesses. Diseases weaken your body and your immune system, so in order to strengthen both, the body needs to be in a rest mode for several hours per day.

time to repair

One of the worse things you can do in combating an illness is not get enough rest while you are ill. Keeping active during an illness is not giving the body time and means to repair itself and it will in fact take you longer to recover from the illness than if you had just taken a few days to rest and get adequate sleep.

Not allowing the body to properly repair itself and strengthen its immune system will also make you more susceptible to catching other diseases. So recuperating is one of the best things you can do to help the body fight any attack.

If during your illness you have problems falling asleep, especially if you are experiencing severe pain and discomfort, then it's best to take a sleep aid. Pain-relieving medications also have the added component of a sleep aid, so it's best to take one of those.

Honey and lime mixture is found to have soothing effect on the disease. Avoiding specific medicines is actually recommended for quick recovery, especially pain reliever with aspirin. Mild exercise/flexing of joints can help ease the pain.

Maintain a healthy diet and keep hydrated. Your body needs all the help it can get to bounce back to good health.
