Jamaica's women were blanked 3-0 by the Dominican Republic in their first match of the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) World League round-one qualifying series at the Mona Hockey Field yesterday.

Team Jamaica had the worst- possible start when Yaniret De La Cruz scored the opening goal in 25th minute for the visitors.

The Dominican Republic then doubled their lead from a 38th-minute strike by Lucia Navamuel Micel.

The second goal seemed to knock the fight out the local girls as the Dominicans dominated possession and Lucia Navamuel completed the scoring in the 68th minute.

Coach, Dr Michelle Holt, admitted her team was beaten not just by goals scored but experience and superiority.

"We were beaten by a superior team. They were technically better than we are," Holt told The Gleaner.

In the day's other game, Trinidad and Tobago romped to a 5-1 win over Puerto Rico.
