Blame Israel for Mideast bloodshed
THE EDITOR, Sir: Now that the attention of the world has shifted to war in Syria and Iraq, the slaughter of the innocent civilians of Gaza has been relegated to the back pages of the news media.
For decades, the West Bank and Gaza have been under brutal Israel occupation. Many have equated the Palestinian territories with the Bantustans of South Africa. History indicates that Israeli governments have no intention of approving a Palestinian state. Israeli settlements continue unabated in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, contrary to United Nations resolutions.
The Arabs of the West Bank and Gaza are trapped in modern-day concentration camps. Israel's provocation and denial of basic human rights to its neighbours have prompted them to act in self-defence.
The Israeli propaganda machine has given the world the impression that Palestinians who fight for justice are blood-thirsty terrorists, while Israel frequently bombs innocent civilians, as they did in Gaza, killing more than 2,000 men, women and children with the support of Europe and the United States. If Hamas are war criminals, then so is the Israeli government.
Palestinians have as much right to the lands of Palestine as the Hebrews of the Middle East. Israel is now the United States' military arm in the region and part of the conspiracy to control Arab oil. Oil now has more value than Arab lives, but Arabs are no longer prepared to sit quietly and wait to be slaughtered. The region is about to be covered in blood.
