Anti-Ferguson editorial irresponsible

THE EDITOR, Sir: Sadly, without any substance, The Gleaner called for the prime minister's removal of the minister of health for his handling of the chikungunya outbreak in Jamaica.

Your harking back to Soviet-style behaviour to describe the minister of health adds nothing to a responsible population handling of a health problem. Giving kudos to politicians for exploiting people's ignorance to score political points makes you no better than them.

The lack of personal responsibility continues to be the millstone around our collective necks. It is my opinion that what the media sell is fear, not information. It brings to mind what the communist philosophy was during the Cold War Years: 'The Worst, the Better.' Sadly, your editorial carries the same message.

Let us put more focus on collective behaviour for the betterment of our nation, not narrow, outdated positions on crucial national issues.
