Chikungunya a blessing
THE EDITOR, Sir: It is often said that there is a silver lining behind every cloud, and this may be true for the outbreak of the chikungunya virus.
For too long, Government, and citizens alike, have treated mosquito-breeding grounds as if they were prizes to be cherished. This outbreak may be the wake-up call Jamaica needs to maintain a clean and safe environment. People will become aware of the dangers of mosquitoes, that is, it's no longer just a bite which leaves a little mark, it can take their lives.
So a national campaign of cleaning up could be killing two birds with one stone - getting rid of the breeding grounds, but also starting the beautification of Jamaica
