Portia not PM material

Published:Tuesday | October 7, 2014 | 10:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir: I have no faith in Portia Simpson Miller.

While I do not put much stock in polls, I believe there are some things they can tell us.

Now, it is being revealed that people's confidence in Portia to handle the job of prime minister has fallen since her time in office, and more people trust Andrew Holness to do a better job.

This is not news as any political observer could surmise that.

When Portia was opposition leader, she never saw a microphone she did not like. Now, as prime minister, she dodges the media, never appears on a substantive current affairs programme like 'All Angles' or 'Impact' to have a sit-down interview, and her security team roughs up journalists for doing their job and asking questions.

She lacks command and knowledge of substantive issues, but is always ready to 'trace' the opposition leader whenever he criticises her leadership.

This demonstrates that Portia is not the leader for our time.
