More than 8,000 entries have been received for this evening's third staging of the Digicel Downtown 5K Run/Walk.

Judine Hunter, special needs programme manager of Digicel Foundation, is upbeat about this evening's event. Funds raised will be distributed through Digicel Foundation Showcase Your Super Abilities programme which will provide needed scholarships to students with special needs.

"Things have gone well leading to today's event and I am very thankful for the support given by the various sponsors that have helped in various ways and this year's staging will be bigger and better," Hunter said.

An after race stage show, featuring DeMarco, TOK and Chino, will be held in Digicel's main parking lot.

Defending champions in the male and female 5K Run event are Damion Bent and Danielle James.

The event will start at the Digicel Headquarters on Ocean Boulevard, then proceed west along Ocean Boulevard, left on to Port Royal Street, on to Water Lane, right on to Pechon Street, then left on to Harbour Street, left on to King Street, left on to South Parade, right on to West Parade, right on to North Parade, turn right on to East Parade to Church Street, left on to Harbour Street, then on to Ocean Boulevard, then finish where they started.
