Western Bureau:Donjay Smith hit a hat-trick to fire defending daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) to a 3-0 win over Edwin Allen High yesterday to book a place in the last eight and a chance at the lucrative million dollar LIME Super Cup.
Manchester High also advanced, after posting a 1-0 victory over Holmwood Technical to share the lead in Zone 3 with STETHS. Both schools have six points and will meet in the deciding fixture on Tuesday in Santa Cruz.
Smith scored the opener in the 25th minute, but had to wait until 10 minutes before the end to notch his second in the 80th and completed his hat-trick in injury time.
His hat-trick moved him up to 13 goals for the campaign. His coach Omar Wedderburn was delighted with the result.
"It was a very physical game against tough opponents but we like games like these because they help to build us and make us stronger," Wedderburn said.
The picture in Zone One is not that clear, following Cornwall College's 2-0 win at Jarrett Park over Petersfield to move to four points from two matches. Petersfield are on three while Muschett, two points, drew 0-0 with Rusea's (one point).
Akeem McCarthy scored both goals for Cornwall.
It was the battle of former champions at Juici Field in Clarendon as St James High edged Glenmuir 1-0 for their sixth point. Both schools look set to advance to the next round.
Godfrey Stewart were too strong for William Knibb and went on to rout the Trelawny-based school 6-0 at Drax Hall to turn Zone 2 on its head, as Green Pond stunned Frome 1-0 to move to four points. Frome and Godfrey Stewart are next on three points ahead of Tuesday's final set of matches.
