Shame on Gov't for dear Abu Bakr deportation

Published:Saturday | October 18, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Only in Jamaica is someone denied entry to the country and the Government pays US$36,000 (J$4 million) to hire a private jet to take the person back to his homeland.

In every other country, such persons go home by commercial airline. This in and of itself is an utter disgrace.

For a country that is fighting an epidemic, where hospitals lack beds and equipment necessary to save the lives of its citizens, where garbage has been piling up for months, where there are not enough fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles, etc., it is abominable that this Government forked over US$36,000 to send Abu Bakr back to Trinidad.

All this while the immigration authorities in Trinidad treat Jamaicans like rubbish. Every Jamaican should be outraged.

If ever there were a time to ask this figurehead of a prime minister to step down, this would be it.
