UDC to clear Forum Beach today

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) yesterday warned the occupiers of the Forum Beach in Portmore, St Catherine, to move all their belongings and temporary structures from the property by midnight last night.

The UDC said it would be clearing the beach of all the structures starting today, and would not be responsible for any damage or loss of property.

July 15 notice

According to the UDC, the demolition exercise is being carried out pursuant to a notice served on July 15.

The occupants of the informal Forum Fishing Village, including fisher-folk, commercial interests and residents, were being required to vacate the beach following the sale of the Forum Hotel in January.

The UDC sold the old hotel for $350 million to Portmore Marine Developments Limited.

Forum is a 200-room hotel located on 6.73 hectares of land.

The property also has 57 self-contained two-bedroom cottages with carports.

The UDC has said the broad vision for redevelopment of the property includes its restoration as a hotel, refurbishing of the cottages as independent units, and upgrading of the fishing beach into a marina and entertainment complex.
