LETTER OF THE DAY - Don't murder babies in the name of 'women's rights'
THE EDITOR, Sir: Why are there no campaigns to properly educate our people on the realities of abortion? Yet prominent people in our society are using their positions and influence to encourage both the public and legislators to accept that abortion is a good thing.
Instead of investing in proper educational programmes to teach young people about the purpose of sex and encouraging sexual responsibility, we desire to build on the culture of death. Jamaica is already saturated with violence, death, bloodshed and gore, but this is apparently not enough.
For those of us who have ever seen videos of the aftermath of an abortion, they will see that it is a bloody and gruesome sight. In some cases, the baby's body parts are literally torn apart, piece by piece, and sucked out with a machine. When you see the little body parts swimming in blood, it is mind-blowing that such a thing is even legal in a civilised society.
In a system where abortion is legal, it is hard to prevent unscrupulous individuals from practising late-term abortions, an illegal procedure that involves the killing of full-term infants. Such is the case in the United States.
There have been abortion clinics in the US that facilitate women having a live baby and afterwards the baby is slain with all kinds of killing devices. However, in the name of political correctness, these incidents are often not properly investigated or presented to the wider public.
One such case is that of Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who was finally found guilty of murdering three infants in 2013. The babies were born alive and then killed with a pair of scissors. For years, he has been killing babies in the name of 'women's rights'.
What blows my mind is that killing a baby in the womb is generally acceptable, but if the same baby is killed seconds after leaving the womb, it becomes murder. Have mercy! It is the same baby inside or outside!
The baby is a human being, can't we see that? Humans do not give birth to cats, dogs or birds. A stillbirth is the birth of an infant that has died in the womb. This implies that the infant was very much alive at one point in the womb. Therefore, an abortion is not simply terminating a pregnancy; it is the removal of a baby's life.
Do not legalise the killing of babies. Enough children die every year through the most violent and horrific ways imaginable. Let us not add to the tally.
