Holmwood make impressive start

DEFENDING senior rural netball champions Holmwood Technical got off to a good start in the second round of the ISSA girls competition on Friday, as they showed that they are still in good stead to win the title by scoring a comprehensive 59-13 win over Charlemont High.
The Christiana-based school went on to secure a double as their juniors, who last won the title two years ago, stayed in contention by dismissing Dinthill Technical 33-22.
There was also double success for Titchfield, Frome Technical, Glenmuir, Petersfield, Denbigh, and Manchester High on Friday.
Titchfield, one of the favourites to dethrone both Holmwood and Denbigh High this year - after topping the Eastern/Corporate Area one-day Open Rally - registered commanding wins. After seeing their juniors beating Central High easily by a 28-8 margin, the seniors did not let up as they were too hot for Kellits High, over whom they secured a comprehensive 53-12 win.
Frome Technical's juniors beat Albert Town 23-14, then their seniors outclassed St Ann-based team St Hilda' High 50-12.
In a very close affair, Glenmuir High's junior team had a close 25-22 win over St Mary High, while their senior team got by Old Harbour High 38-22.
Petersfield defeated St Hilda's juniors 26-7, and their senior team netted a 43-12 win over Albert Town High.
Defending junior champions Denbigh scored a big 47-10 win over Marymount High, while their senior team registered an even bigger win, demolishing St Mary High 60-10.
Both Manchester High teams secured big wins. The juniors were clinical in a 48-8 triumph over St James High, while their seniors outplayed William Knibb 68-16.
The competition will resume on Wednesday.
