Overhaul NHT

Published:Friday | November 7, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir: The management of the National Housing Trust (NHT) should be outsourced or revamped with a renewed mandate to provide housing for the people of Jamaica, where there is more than 65 per cent squatting, and not building parks, bailing out Government or acquiring entertainment properties like the Trelawny-based Outameni attraction.

NHT is obviously cash rich and should be allowed to enter the market providing lower interest rates, thus having the impact of forcing down the generally oppressive interest rates and, subsequently, housing stock prices in the market.

The NHT must be there for many more people. The reach must be widened.
