Cabinet carved in stone?

Published:Tuesday | November 11, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am speaking as a patriotic Jamaican, and not an individual who has any political bias, but I cannot help but ask, "Are the positions of members of the Government and Cabinet set in stone?" Because it seems that no matter what they do, no matter how outrageous the mistakes they make are, they are not demoted or fired.

It is bewildering that since the election of December 29, 2011, all the ministers and their colleagues have been rooted in their positions, despite their many shortcomings. Have we reached the point where party loyalty comes before our national responsibilities of governance?

How on earth can a minister rack up such a huge phone bill, yet he was not even reprimanded? Look at the many infractions of the energy minister. Look at the level of crime. Look at how easy it is to use $180 million of NHT contributors' money to buy the Outameni property.

Who is really in charge of the Government? We need answers. Real answers.
