WESTERN BUREAU:A St James man, who was arrested on a warrant for possession of cocaine, after he failed to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last May, will have his case mentioned before the court on February 11 next year.

Dwayne White, of a Springfield address, is charged with possession of less than an ounce of cocaine. The allegations of the charge were not outlined when the matter was mentioned on Monday, but the court was told that White should have appeared before the court to answer to the charge on May 30, 2013.

However, White had failed to appear at that time and a warrant was issued for his arrest, resulting in him being taken into custody recently.

"You had a court case on May 30 last year. Why didn't you come to court?" Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie asked White.

"You know, I had the paper (with the court date) in my pocket ... please, miss, I'm begging you a chance," White replied.

"There is no chance to beg, sir. Somebody will have to come and bail you ... this case will have to be tried," Tie told him.

"My aunt has to work, and she cannot come," White pleaded.

"Even if your aunt has to work, she can still come and bail you," said Tie.

The court was also told that the forensic certificate in White's case had not been applied for.

"I am going to offer you bail in the sum of $20,000 with two sureties. You are to come back to court on February 11," Tie told White before he was subsequently taken out of the courtroom.
