PERTH, Australia (CMC):

West Indies legend Brian Lara will join former Australian stars in an exhibition match, signalling an explosive start to the new season of the Big Bash League.

Lara, the former West Indies cricket captain, will play for an all-star Australian Legends X1 led by former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist against defending Big Bash champions Perth Scorchers.

The Western Australia Festival of Cricket Twenty20 exhibition match was originally scheduled to be held today, but has now been postponed to next Monday.

The match was among several which were rescheduled by Cricket Australia (CA) following the death of batsman Phillip Hughes, two days after he was struck behind the head with a bouncer.

Lara's all-star Australian Legends will play Scorchers at Aquinas College in Perth's southern suburb.
