KINGSTON:

Defending champions Calabar Primary and Junior High will face off with John Mills Primary and Junior High in the finals of the LASCO/Salada Kingston and St Andrew Junior High Schools' Football Competition today at the Cling Cling Oval at 2 p.m.

Calabar and John Mills got the better of Swallowfield and Windward Road, respectively, to secure their spot in the finals. The defeated semi-finalists will compete for the third-place spot ahead of the ultimate decider, beginning at noon.

Derrick Brown, organiser of the competition, is expecting a keenly contested final.

"The match between Calabar and John Mills is going to be very competitive. They played against each other in the Kiwanis competition last week and that match ended with a very close score following a penalty shoot-out, so I know that both teams are going to come well prepared. Calabar are the defending champions and John Mills are also former winners, so both are good teams," he said.

Nanda Dukharan, brand representative of LASCO Distributors Limited, noted that the company is proud of its investment in youth.

"LASCO is proud to make this investment in the Junior High Schools' Football Competition as we have identified it as an important mechanism in the holistic development of our youth. Competitions such as these teach the value of commitment and discipline and those values are life lessons which can positively impact the lives of these students."
